Surprised that his birth father was muslim and birth mother was
Jewish and he was adopted by Paul and Clara jobs.
Admired most that they started with just $1,200 of capital and built
his first 100 computers by hand.
Least admired drug use and his demeanor to others- verbally
assaulting them and being hyper-critical.
I also did not appreciate how he stole the Macintosh project from Jeff
Raskin.
Jobs encountered much adversity- he was fired from Apple and then
started NeXT proving to get in his own way with his obsession for perfectionism. This adversity led him to return after Apple acquired NeXT and this started
his return from previously failing as CEO.

2) What competencies
did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?

Innovation: Jobs applied
so much of the engineering creativity his father taught him. I though his influence from a calligraphy
class was remarkable and a tribute to his vision. His digital hub strategy was brilliant and
predicted that his devices would be the center of our lives in a digital era.
Passion: he had an
insatiable desire to deliver products that were perfect. This passion also hurt him as he often
criticized and degraded those close to him and those whom worked with him
that would not chase perfection as he would.

3) Identify at least one part of the reading
that was confusing to you.

I found his passion and interest in Buddhism conflicted with how he
treated employees and those close to him with his maniacal outbursts and
constant degradation. These conflict
with so many principals of Buddhism.

4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you
ask? Why?

provoked his digital hub strategy?
2) How
did you gain so much confidence in what people wanted before they even knew
themselves?

ReplyDeleteWow i never knew he was adopted that is very truly interesting. your second question is really interesting and something to think about how he could know what people wanted before they even knew. Jobs was a interesting person and i can see how traits that people have to start a company could also hinder them in a way.

ReplyDeleteIt was shocking to learn from your post that he had actually been fired from Apple then returning as CEO. Despite all his achievements I agree with you that I would not find the fact that he verbally abused those beneath him and had a poor demeanors towards as pleasant or in line of being a company's CEO, especially if he follows the religion of Buddhism.

ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting that you brought up the conflicting sides of Steve Jobs between the spiritual path he followed and the way he lived. Often times, individuals take up certain spiritual beliefs because it aligns with what they value in character, in the world, in business, in life. However, this doesn't always mean that they apply it to how they live their lives. Many people around the world profess to be adherent to a particular religion but don't follow the doctrines or lifestyles that religion promotes. Yet, even if they are not orthodox in their beliefs, the religion still influences them through tradition or particular pieces of wisdom/perspective such as what Jobs applied to his own business model (and parts of his life).
